Snowflake Challenge Day 11
Jan. 12th, 2019 06:48 pmDay 11
In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
My creative process has changed over the years. I used to be much more of a planner. Of course I was writing shorter fic then. Now I plan out tentpole moments, the big events I know I want to happen, and very generally how to get the characters in the positions they need to be in for those moments. I wing everything else.If I get writers block, generally I try to write through it. Eventually, things will mesh, and the characters will start talking to me again. I may have to rewrite stuff, but that's okay. Sometimes you have to get the characters angry for them to talk to you again. There have also been times when I've started a chapter only have that scene end up being the middle or end of the chapter instead.
Initial inspiration is usually an image in my head or an interaction I'd like to witness. When something is done, part of me always wants to keep it going. Maybe that's why I've written over 300 chapters of my current fic.
I always type using Word, because it is much easier for me to edit on the fly. I generally write with background noise, whether tv or music, something I don't have to pay attention to.
